MAURIC is currently collaborating with Berret-Racoupeau Yachts Design on a 59,8 m sailing yacht design dedicated to passenger transport and particularly for cruise.

After the sailing Ro-Ro cargo vessel NEOLINER, MAURIC is currently working on a cruising sailing yacht, Smart Spirit II. It’s a pride to work on these innovative projects that are characteristic of the environmental situation awareness and the new solutions founded for greener transports.

Two fields of expertise in ship design, and one yacht

Smart Spirit II is a vessel looking like a private sailing yacht but designed to operate as a passenger vessel for high-standard cruise with high comfort level all around the world (Mediterranean and Caribbean Seas, Indian Ocean Islands…). As the vessel is professional, she’s based on commercial standards for passenger ships but with a high level performances.

MAURIC and Berret-Racoupeau teamed-up to offer an optimized solution to the French shipowner Smart Yachting Company. Indeed, Berret-Racoupeau naval architecture design office has a strong experience in designing sailing yachts, while MAURIC is an expert in professional and commercial vessels design and marine engineering. By joining our forces and skills, we elaborated a preliminary design of this sailing yacht for the shipowner. This first ship under French flag will be followed by 4 or 5 units by 2025. Currently, the shipyards consultation’s phase for bidding is engaged.

Characteristics and performances of this sailing yacht

With her 59.8m LOA, 11.2m breadth, 2m draft (4.7m under keel) and more than 1200 m² of sails upwind, Smart Spirit II can host up 24 passengers and 11 crew members onboard. Indeed, this yacht has 12 double bedrooms with independent bathrooms for passengers and 7 rooms for the crew. We find also lounge and various saloons inside the boat and on the upper deck, to appreciate the cruise in all weather conditions.

This new kind of yacht is a wind assisted ship with a ketch-type sailing rig (two-mast sailing vessel) and is also powered by a twin IMO Tier III diesel engines propulsion. The yacht is capable to reach more than 15 knots under sails. The manoeuvrability in harbours and shallow waters areas is also increased by a bow thruster, the twin rudders and twin propellers.
