The 29th of March 2018 took place the Breizh Nevez 1 inauguration ceremony in Groix harbour in the presence of the islanders, and also Loïg Chesnais-Girard, President of the Brittany Region, Gérard Lahellec, Vice-president in charge of transport and mobility, Dominique Yvon, Mayor of Groix and Odette Herviaux, Morbihan’s senator and godmother of the Breizh Nevez 1.
Thanks to this new ro-ro passenger ferry, the ship operator Compagnie Océane will make the connection between Lorient and Groix within the public transport network named BreizhGo. Breizh Nevez 1, designed by SHIP STUDIO and built by PIRIOU shipyard has been financed by the Brittany Region in order to replace the Saint-Tudy ferry which was operating since 1985.
This Ro-Ro Passenger ferry is 43.5 meters long, has a maximum breadth of 11.6 meters and a 750 tons displacement. She can receive up to 300 passengers (including 4 PRM) and 18 light vehicles or 7 light vehicles and 3 heavy vehicles. The Breizh Nevez 1 is designed to optimize her manoeuvrability, her diesel consumption and the level of comfort on board.
Her limited dimensions and reduced draught are particularly adapted to the special access conditions of the Groix harbour and allow optimizing the service frequency of the vessel and enable her to be based during the whole year in the Island harbour.
As part of this project, MAURIC provided to the General Council of Morbihan and then to the Region of Brittany Project Management and Technical Assistance Services. This project initiated in 2013, has enabled us to support local authorities during the whole process of ship acquisition, from the preparation of the technical specifications, to the shipyards consultation (public tender), until the vessel’s delivery, by providing our expertise in Ro-Ro passenger ferries. MAURIC still continue to support the Brittany Region during the vessel’s guarantee period.
MAURIC Team is grateful to the General Council of Morbihan and the Brittany Region for their constant trust during this project. We continue to work on different transportation vessels projects, for passengers or cargo, for private or institutional shipowners.
